Blackpool Community Development

In 2009, The Rank Foundation funded a partnership programme working with Blackpool Carers, Making Space (a mental health charity), The Prince's Trust, Lancashire Constabulary, the Community Foundation for Lancashire and Holy Trinity, a local church situated on the South Shore.

This programme has encouraged organisations to work together, sharing ideas and good practice, whilst levering additional funds from other sources including the local authority and other grant-makers. Concentrating our effort in a close, geographic way has helped to bring about greater impact and effect - the Blackpool programme has started strongly and we will look to encourage sustainable growth and development: a pebble in the pond, making a difference to peoples lives.

The Blackpool programme has been built on our success in Burnley and Corby, helping to promote community led activities, building capacity and promoting stronger leadership and governance. Community Development will remain a key theme for the next 5 years.

We have also recently launched a Diploma in Community Learning and Development with the YMCA George Williams Collage. This aims to give local leaders the skills and expertise to help develop meaningful and sustainable initiatives. You can learn more about this on the YMCA site.
