Greenbank Community Church is a Charity that seeks to serve it’s community through projects such as “Greenbank Care” (a domiciliary care agency employing 24 people), “IMPACT” a day service for adults with learning difficulties, “Café Connect” a community cafe and “Greenbank Youth” which is supported by The Rank Foundation.
Before the relationship with The Rank Foundation, Greenbank Community Church had a heart and desire to reach their community and in particular young people. However, the vision that they had was unable to materialise until The Rank Foundation offered their support. Thankfully, The Foundation’s funding has been a catalyst not just for the change in their youth work but also in the area of social care as well as the complete redevelopment of their church facilities which are now truly community.
Full Time Youth and Community Worker
The Rank Foundation funded Dave Wood as a full time Youth and Community Worker for 5 years which has been transformational not only to who we are but also to who he is. In that time Dave has completed a BA Hons Degree in Youth Work. In addition, The Rank Foundation funded two “Gappers” as well as numerous “CAP students”. Not only have The Rank Foundation provided financial support to allow this to happen but they have also provided us with a listening ear, professional support and advice.
Expanding and Increasing Capacity
Because of the support provided by The Rank Foundation we have been able to expand the youth work increasing our capacity and effectiveness through ongoing training, development and staffing. A large number of young people’s lives have been impacted through the youth club, mentoring, media, music workshops, schools work, outreach and trips. Although many of these young people have grown up and left entering into adulthood they stay in contact and carry our values and ethos. Some have gone on to become youth and community volunteers.
In summary the Rank Foundation has enabled the project to grow in numbers and increase our sphere of influence with young people. That has allowed us the privilege of being part of their journey into maturity and ultimately adulthood. This project has not only had an amazing impact on young people but also on the staff and volunteers who have themselves grown and learnt, both from the practical experience and the enthusiasm and strength that many young people have.
On behalf of all the trustees of Greenbank Community Church I would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank all the trustees of the Rank Foundation for their generosity, support and belief in the project. It truly has been transformational.
